I started this project during the winter lockdown, very early in 2021. I had just moved back to the area, and took to heading out of my flat in the afternoons for that much-needed afternoon walk.
During that time especially, the river became both a place to gather strength and a place to find comfort and solace. The steadiness and certitude of ‘Old Father Thames’, ebbing and flowing at its set times was set against the changing weather and skies reflected in its waters. The calm predictability of the river contrasted with the wildness of the sky created never ending variations to experience and capture. And this somehow helped me to process and make sense of the wider context of what we were all going through at the time.
